O filme é baseado no movimento “Pau de Colher”, um fenômeno messiânico e milenarista ocorrido na Bahia na primeira metade do século XX, e que resultou no massacre de seus participantes por forças policiais militares de Pernambuco.

The film is based on the “Pau de Colher” movement, a messianic and millenarian phenomenon that occurred in Bahia in the first half of the 20th century, and which resulted in the massacre of its participants by military police forces in Pernambuco.
